Personal fashion always seems to evolve in cycles. It is true that fashion trends are tending to repeat themselves through the recent years. Currently there are a few signs of how fashion is evolving and picking up on past trends in a way. Some of the styles mimic those of the 1980′s and the 1990′s (I’m sure you can remember some of the designs that emerged in those decades!).
The 80′s Trend
There are countless 80′s styles in the trendiest stores. These styles began making a comeback in the last year or so, and continue to be popular. Styles are taken from popular 80′s movies like Flashdance with the off shoulder tops, and Top Gun with the Aviator sunglasses trend. Some of the items that we are seeing in stores now that originated in the 80′s are:
• Fishnet stockings
• leggings/jeggings
• Neon colors
• Off the shoulder, cut tees
• Jelly shoes
• Cropped tops
• Flared skirts and jackets
• Skinny jeans
• Bermuda shorts
• Bright flowered print pants
• Swatch watches
• Bright jelly style bracelets
• Black and white stripes
• Acid wash and ripped jeans
Future Trends
Over the next few years trends will begin to change, that is a given. Fashion will always evolve and entirely new looks will become popular. For 2013, it is predicted that fashion will trend towards clothing with a more “homemade” and a romantic, earthy look. Soft Eco-friendly materials will be used in many items. Asian inspired clothing will also be popular. Also, there will be a modern look to materials including metal and plastic finishes. Another big trend will be ombre prints. Ombre is a styling where one color gently fades into another. Ombre has already started trending, especially in hairstyles and it will be popular for both men and women’s clothing and accessories in the coming years. Popular colors will be soft yellows and grays, and the unheard of combination of brown and black.
Fashion sometimes seems to evolve so fast that one can feel like they are left in the dust sometimes. A great way to stay on top of current trends is to visit popular stores often. Even if items are not purchased it can give the fashion forward person a jump start on staying trendy. It’s also useful to keep up with the latest fashion shows and magazines. Although the latest, cutting trends may look a little odd to start with, it’s surprising how quickly we adapt when more and more people start wearing them!
